The Fatty Daddy’s Cookie Cup certainly deserves points for creativity with its macaroons and torched marshmallows.  The execution is still inconsistent but, given the enthusiasm of the owners, we see that gap quickly eliminated.

Sassy’s Cafe & Bakery

Shabby Chic meets the family dinner.  Think of  a poor man's Sweet Cakes Cafe... complete with the sandwiches, cookies, and the scores of women gathering for the lunch and the latest gossip.  Sandwiches above average but man those cookies are something special.  

The 'Must Try'-  The cheesesteak is good but the real reason you are here is those cookies

The Herb Box

While often considered an 'also-ran' in a corridor that showcases Marcellino, Cowboy Ciao, Barrio Queen, and Citizen Public house The Herb Box offers a solid menu that excels at providing healthy options you can actually enjoy.

Bertha's Café

The prices are beyond reasonable, the portions plentiful, and the food compares favorably to the other similar spots in East Phoenix such as Over Easy, LGO, and Acacia.  Be prepared to leave full.  I think Callaway ought to relinquish its trademark because when you depart you be thinking that his place should be called the home of the Big Bertha.

Frank & Lupe's Old Mexico

Solid old school Mexican food that gets the honorary "TeePee" half star upgrade due to its historical value to the community.   The kind of place in Old Town that the tourists eat up.


The 'Must Try'- The Poblano Enchiladas with a Sopaipilla

Sweet Cakes Cafe

I'm secure enough in my masculinity to unequivocally endorse this place.  Look past the shabby chic decor and the gossiping grandmas and you will find some great sandwiches and the best sugar cookie I've had in Phoenix.

The 'Must Try'- Any sandwich will do so long as you leave with a couple Sugar Cookies.
